Updated COVID-19 vaccines are now available by appointment at the Dent County Health Center. As of 10/17/2023, we have the following:
50 doses of Moderna – For ages 12 and older
20 doses of Pfizer – For ages 12 and up
Pfizer for ages 6months to 4 years
Pfizer for ages 5y to 11y
Novavax – only comes in multidose vials, so we need a minimum of 10 people to order this vaccine. Please contact us if you are interested.
We recommend everyone to receive a dose of the updated vaccine, which is based on the XBB lineage of the Omicron variant. This is expected to provide greater protection than the original vaccines, which were based on the original virus. The original SARS-CoV-2 virus has been out of circulation since 2021, and the virus has mutated many times since then.
While the original vaccines and past infections provide some protection, the circulating strains of COVID-19 present today are genetically different and can evade the immunity conferred by past infections or vaccinations. This is why it is recommended for everyone to get the most updated vaccine. It is likely that the vaccines will continue to be updated periodically as the virus changes over time, much like how the influenza vaccines are updated each year.
