Reason for Recall
The shrimp was processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods) in Indonesia. While no products that tested positive for Cesium-137 (Cs-137) have entered U.S. commerce, the FDA and U.S. Customs & Border Protection detected contamination risks during inspections.
FDA determined that shrimp from this supplier may have been prepared, packed, or held under unsanitary conditions that could result in contamination. As a result:
- FDA has placed PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati on an import alert for chemical contamination.
- The firm’s shrimp products are blocked from entering the U.S. until corrective actions are taken.
- FDA is continuing its ongoing investigation in collaboration with distributors and retailers.
What Consumers Should Do
- Check your freezer for the recalled Great Value shrimp products.
- Do not eat the product.
- Return it to the place of purchase or dispose of it safely.
