Dent County’s tally for COVID cases has moderately risen over the past month. COVID continues to spread throughout our community, but thanks to increased immunity and availability of treatment options, we are seeing far fewer severe cases of COVID-19 causing hospitalization and death.
Masking
At this time, we recommend masking only if you have symptoms or are around someone who has symptoms or is positive for COVID-19. People who are immunocompromised should consider wearing a mask at all times in public. Wearing a mask reduces a sick person’s chances of transmitting several respiratory diseases, including COVID-19, RSV, Influenza, and the common cold.
Boosters
We also recommend getting an updated booster against COVID-19 as soon as possible. The updated booster provides some additional protection against the Omicron variant. Everyone ages 12 and up is eligible for at least one booster dose of the updated booster. We have both Pfizer and Moderna at the Health Center.
Paxlovid
We have a limited remaining supply of monoclonal antibodies. However, the supply of Paxlovid is sufficient for demand. Paxlovid can reduce the duration and severity of COVID-19 if taken early in the disease. You can obtain Paxlovid by making an appointment with our nurse practitioner or pharmacist.
Testing
We have a strong supply of COVID-19 tests going into winter. We soon will start recommending COVID/Flu combo tests as Flu season begins. We can also test for RSV, Strep, and many other pathogens on our Biofire 19-panel test.
